Market Trends in Boise

PMIWIC was honored to have Larry Willis from the Idaho Department of Labor serve on our September Dinner Meeting Career Panel. He has provided the following statistical data to share with all of you.

Question: What is the average length of time that employees stay with an organization, and are we seeing trends shifting in Boise?

Currently, the average (median) length of time is 4.6 years. Tenure has actually increased over the past 10 years. http://www.bls.gov/news.release/tenure.toc.htm. Check out all the tables in the second link for more info. Unfortunately, these numbers are not available at the metro area level due to limited government resources, but typically, in a tight (job seeker’s) market, tenure is shorter because the demand for labor is high and employers are fighting over the good employees, increasing wages and driving voluntary separations upward. PM Jobs in the Boise Metro_Tenure

Question: What are the market trends in Boise in the field of Project Management?

Where are the “hot spots” or “industries” that seem to be more prevalent in hiring for this expertise? (Project Management Jobs in the Boise Metro Area)

Currently, the top industries in the Boise Metro that are hiring for this skill are :

  • Professional, Scientific and Technical
  • Public Administration (Government)
  • Finance and Insurance
  • Wholesale Trade
  • Retail Trade

Are there any trends towards a work from home workforce?

Yes, there has been an increase in the percentage of people who do at least some work from home in most occupation groups. In management, business and financial occupations for example, almost 38 percent of workers did at least some of their primary job from home in 2015, up from 33 percent in 2006. Again, no stats on this for the Boise metro.
